Password-Protected File Sharing: what to know

A link alone is enough to download, so anyone who sees the link could open it while your page is open. Add a password and the receiver must enter it before they see any file names or can download.

The password is checked by your browser, not a server: the receiver's browser sends it over the encrypted connection, and after 5 wrong tries the connection is closed.

Popular uses

  • Links posted in group chats or shared screens
  • Contracts, IDs and other private documents
  • Client deliveries

Tips for the best result

  • Keep this page open, and the computer awake, until the receiver's download finishes. Your browser is doing the sending.
  • Share the password a different way from the link, for example by phone.
  • Stop sharing as soon as the receiver has their files.

Read how JustYourFiles sends files and our privacy details. Files go only to people who open your link while this page is open; nothing is stored on a server.
