About JustYourFiles
What JustYourFiles does, how it is funded, what happens to your files, and how to get help.
What JustYourFiles is
JustYourFiles sends files from your browser straight to someone else's. Add files, share the link or QR code, and they download directly from your device while your page is open. No upload, no account, no app.
How it's funded
Pages show a small number of clearly labeled ads. That's how sending stays free, with no sign-up. The page someone opens to download your files shows no ads.
Your data
Files travel only between the two browsers, over an encrypted WebRTC connection, and are never stored on our servers. A connection server helps the browsers find each other and sees their IP addresses, not your files. See the privacy policy for details.
Open source
Connections use PeerJS (MIT), zips are written with fflate (MIT) and QR codes are drawn with node-qrcode (MIT). The idea of sending files peer to peer in the browser owes a lot to FilePizza (BSD-3-Clause); JustYourFiles is its own code.
How a transfer works, and its limits
Your browser reads each file in pieces and sends them over a WebRTC data channel, the same technology browsers use for video calls. The receiver's browser checks that every file arrived complete before saving it. Speed depends on the slower of the two internet connections.
The link stops working when your page closes or your device sleeps. Some company, school and mobile networks block direct connections; transfers between them may not start. Chrome, Edge and Firefox on a computer, and Chrome on Android, save a download as it arrives, so any size works; Safari and iPhone browsers keep it in memory until it's complete. See all ways to send, the privacy policy and the terms of service.
Who runs JustYourFiles
JustYourFiles is built and run by Applied Ego, the trading name of Applied Ego Software LLC, which also makes the other JustYour tools.
